The weather in October continued to be high-temperature inertia, but this email made Amy feel as if she had suddenly fallen into the refrigerator, so cool and calm.
She deeply understands the importance of this project to TOPSFLO and to herself. Whether it is market share or annual demand, it can bring great progress.
Amy immediately fed back this information to the department manager and product manager, and decided to further discuss the needs of customers and improve the product immediately.
Through the previous research, Amy learned that customers have always been troubled by the noise of the water htater pump. The noise of the water pump directly affects the user experience of the water heater. If any water heater brand can break through this problem, it means that the water heater market will be huge. Stretch your fists. However, a satisfactory water heater pump supplier has not yet been found that can effectively solve this problem.
This is a challenge, but also an opportunity, because this type of water heater is still in the initial stage of the market, and the market size is not very large, so many water pump suppliers are still waiting and watching. After all, research and development requires a large investment, and the return is not yet clear.
After evaluation by the company’s strategic research and development committee, it was concluded that this project has a high degree of matching with TOPSFLO, and the newly added amount can support and cover TOPSFLO’s research and development investment.
Recalling the state at that time, Amy said that at that time, she seemed to be a soldier who was about to go to the battlefield. She was full of hope for the future and had to do every meticulous tactical action solidly.
Amy confirmed the specific requirements of the product with the customer at the first time, which played a vital role in the direction of the R&D team’s work.
The customer’s feedback is as follows: “For your pump, we have the following four requirements, and hope that TOPSFLO can continue to improve and enhance:
First, while maintaining the current product head pressure, we hope that the flow rate can be increased by 30%;
Second, while increasing the flow rate by 30%, the power of the pump cannot be increased and needs to be further reduced;
Third, under the premise of improving the above performance, the noise is lower than the current product by more than 5db;
Fourth, all raw materials need to meet the standards of WRAS. ”
After receiving and confirming the customer’s specific requirements, TOPSFLO immediately set up a special research and development team of 5 people, including: motor, resistor, structure, process, mold and other engineers.
This group is led by an electrical engineer.
After 2 months of repeated in-depth research and simulation tests, a clear and feasible improvement plan was finally obtained.
The implementation of the plan is not an easy task, it is more like an upgrade of a new technology. Specifically, for example, the accuracy of the core components of the rotor part needs to be accurate from the current 0.01mm to 0.001mm; the components need to use imported products with higher efficiency; the motor needs to adopt the large-core optimized design of the three-phase motor.
After a specific set of improvements, TOPSFLO officially replied to the customer at the end of January 2014: We can provide a brand new product that fully meets the customer’s standards in October 2014, and the customer is very pleased to receive the positive reply from TOPSFLO.
In the next 9 months, with a commitment to the customer project and a 100% investment and responsible attitude, TOPSFLO re-optimized and designed a full set of products, re-selected materials, opened molds, and after repeated mold trials and adjustments, Finally, the precision of the core components of the rotor has been improved; at the same time, the optimized design of the large core of the motor is also being implemented simultaneously.
The first brand new sample came out in August 2014, and the test results achieved 98% of the expected effect.
However, this result did not fully meet the customer’s requirements, nor was the product performance satisfactory to TOPSFLO’s technical team and company.
In the next two months, the TOPSFLO project research and development team will continue to do further testing and verification: the product has passed 100,000 impact tests, aging tests, high and low temperature tests, noise and vibration tests, etc., and all indicators have passed smoothly.
These nine months are really like being pregnant and giving birth in September.
After 9 months of self-improvement, finally in October 2014, TOPSFLO confidently sent 5 samples to customers.
After more than two months of accelerated limit testing, we received positive feedback from customers on January 26, 2015: “We are very happy that this product has met all our further requirements, and the performance of the water pump has not only improved from the previous 18L/min It has been increased to 24L/min, an increase of 30%; at the same time, the noise has been reduced by 7db compared to the previous one, reaching 48db; the power of the product has also been reduced from the original 55W to 48W. We are very satisfied with this and especially appreciate the research and development level of the TOPSFLO team , efficiency and integrity, and have decided to use this product of yours immediately to complement the design of our new water heater.”
Since February 2015, customers have directly used our new water heater pump for their new product design. Since the product was launched in June 2015, the sales volume has been very stable. Up to now, the defect rate of the water pump has remained at 1/100000. Moreover, more and more customers directly seek TOPSFLO for customized product solutions for new water heater products, maintaining a long-term strategic cooperative relationship.
In fact, for TOPSFLO, the exploration and growth along the way are accompanied by the high requirements of customers, in order to make overall progress and improvement, and continuously obtain one harvest after another.
